Cama Convalescent Home
A few ladies from the Time and Talents Club visited the beautiful Cama Convalescent Home in Bandra which is fully furnished and offers basic facilities, including food.
There were only 11 people taking advantage of this lovely place which is situated on the Bandra sea front.
Other Parsis too could enjoy a one-to-two-month holiday here. Do they know of its existence?
DINA DAVER
Pervin Davar, administrator of the Cama Home, clarifies:
The Bandra Parsi Convalescent Home for Women and Children (trust set up in 1903) and the Bai Shirinbai Cama Convalescent Home for Parsi Men and Boys (started in 1937) provide food, shelter and medicines, free for a limited period, to the needy members of our community. Over the years thousands of men, women and children have availed of these facilities.
It is the endeavor of the trustees that the benefit of the legacy (the funds) left by the noble, farsighted late Shirinbai Cama is spread to every needy member of our community. The building facing the Arabian Sea is open to members of the Parsi Zoroastrian community who have limited means and are convalescing from illness and/or requiring rest and recuperation for a limited period. All efforts are being made to make every inmate’s stay comfortable and memorable.
In case of an institution like this, in any other community, there would be a waiting list of people wanting to grab such a wonderful opportunity. In our community itself, there are many needy members living alone, with nobody to care, some in villages and towns and even in cities, for whom a short stay in this institution would be a real boon. However, it is disheartening that the response is not as it should be maybe because they are unaware of this facility, or out of fear of the unknown or wary of any change.
This is an appeal to all, the friends, relatives and social workers, to eliminate the apprehensions of such deserving members of our community and guide them to enlist themselves for a short stay at this institution so that they can enjoy the taste of wholesome, nourishing food, peaceful living in clean and beautiful environment and also companionship, at least for a short period.
Information in connection with the procedure for enlisting/applying for stay may be obtained from the Home premises at 56, Dhunjibhoy Bomanji Building, Byramji Jijibhoy Road, Bandra (W), Bombay 400050, tel: 26423727 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
