Cama convalescent home
Every summer the Bai Shirinbai Cama Convalescent Home, 56, B. J. Road, Bandra (West), Bombay 400050 would resound with the laughter and dor dhaam (running about) of young Parsi boys and girls sponsored by the Liaison Committee of Bombay Parsi Punchayet, occupying the first floor and carrying out their activities for a fortnight. Unfortunately, in 2008 their absence was felt as the Cama Home was undergoing major repairs.
I stayed at the Home for two months last year, as I have done in previous years, and found on an average that the occupancy is 40 to 50 percent as compared with earlier years when it was much higher. For Zoroastrians who come from different parts of the country, the Home is a refuge of peace and quiet where they can imbibe the spirit of nature against the backdrop of the vast Arabian Sea. With free board and lodging, a weekly visit by a doctor (a Parsi), and the cost of medicines charged to the Home, an inmate can stay there for two months but not longer.
The Home now has a new administrator and lady manager. Two of the trustees who reside in Bandra visit the Home at least once in a week to ensure that the inmates are comfortable. I request the trustees to seriously consider making admission forms for stays at the Home available at the M. F. Cama Athornan Institute in Andheri (West), Rustomfram-na Agiary in Dadar, Faredoon and Burjor sandalwood shop at Dhobi Talao and the Karani Agiary inside Cusrow Baug so that men and women of our community can take better advantage of the facilities offered.
