“Cama Convalescent...”
I have read the letter by Dina Daver who had visited the Cama Convalescent Home in Bandra, accompanied by a few ladies from the Time and Talents Club, bemoaning the fact that members of our community are not availing of a stay at the Home. I have also read the clarification by the administrator Pervin Davar ("Cama Convalescent Home,” Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, April 21, 2006).
During my stay at the Cama Home, I found that the majority of inmates come from Bombay whilst two inmates came from places like Jamshedpur and Bharuch and one lady from abroad was recuperating here after her operation.
I would urge more and more members of the community to make use of the legacy left by the farsighted Bai Shirinbai Cama in the form of a convalescent home.
The Cama Home faces the Arabian Sea. Watching the gentle lapping of the waves, ebbs and tides and the setting sun from the Cama Home soothes one’s nerves and gives us a chance to admire nature. "Sau davani ék dava ané té chhè dariani hava (as compared to 100 medicines, fresh sea breeze is the best cure).” Parallel to the sea runs a 1,200-meter-long, beautiful "Citizens’ Promenade.”
The Cama Home is an ideal place for people wanting rest and for convalescence. Boarding, lodging is free. There is a weekly medical check-up by the Home’s doctor and medicines prescribed are charged to the Home.
The two energetic and capable trustees visit the Home once or twice a week to see that inmates are comfortable and live in a cordial atmosphere. Their directives are carried out by the ever helpful lady administrator of the Home who liaises between the trustees and the inmates, whilst the day-to-day management of the Home is carried out by the hard-working couple.
