Best at BCom

At the BCom examination conducted by the University of Mumbai in March 2005, 21-year-old Farzana Behram Wadia from Podar College secured the first rank with a record 89.14 percent. "Farzana is an outstanding and focussed student,” the principal of Podar College K. C. Kuriala was quoted in the Mid Day of May 30. Scoring 624 marks out of 700, Wadia obtained more than 93 percent marks in five of the seven subjects. Of the 58,522 students who appeared for the BCom examination this year, 37,242 were successful, of whom 10,645 passed in the first class, notes a write up in The Bombay Sama­char of May 29.
In recognition of her consistent and meritorious contribution to the activities of Podar College she was the recipient of the Lights of Podar and the Principal’s Special Award for the academic year 2004-05, states a press release. "Aiming for excellence is a habit with Farzana,” writes Marzban Giara.



Wadia: focused


In 2000 she stood 23rd at the Secondary School Certificate Examination with 90.13 percent, topping her J. B. Vachha High School. At the First Year Junior College examination she stood third; the next year at the Higher Secondary Certificate examination she stood first in the commerce stream, scoring 89.83 percent. Thereafter she earned the third rank at the First Year BCom examination and the first rank at the Second Year BCom examination.
The brilliant student has been making her presence felt at the all India Professional Education examinations conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India: in the part I examination (equivalent to the earlier CA entrance examination) she secured the fourth rank and was declared the best lady stu­dent; at the part II examination (equivalent to CA inter) she secured 18th rank. After doing her articleship for the next three years she will appear for the part III (final CA examination).
Standing first every year throughout her school life, Wadia had won the Dr Homi Bhabha Young Scientist awards in the junior and senior category, earning gold medals and scholarships. In the national talent search examination conducted by the Brihan Mumbai Teachers Association she stood sixth in the merit list.
Wadia though is no book worm and her hobbies include draw­ing, singing and dancing, winning medals at different competi­tions. She is an ardent carom, badminton, volley ball and dodge ball player.
