The only candidate to secure a first class with 66 percent in the Master of Laws (LLM) examination held by the University of Mumbai in May 2004 and thus securing the first rank was Freddy Rumi Daruwala who was felicitated by the vice chancellor on August 6, 2004, notes a press release. Daruwala has specialized in commercial law.
Three years earlier in the LLB examination conducted by the Mumbai University Daruwala had stood second and was conferred the Late Y. G. Athalye Prize and the V. F. Taraporewala Golden Jubilee Memorial Prize. A rank holder at different examinations, Daruwala had stood 44th in India in the chartered accountants final examination in November 1988, clearing both groups together at the first attempt. Prior to that he had ranked fifth in physics in the BSc examination conducted by the Bombay University in April 1985, the press release lists his achievements.

He is a practising advocate with M/s Jehangir Gulabbhai and Billimoria and Daruwalla dealing mainly with intellectual property law and is on the visiting faculty for income tax at the Government Law College.
"He is the principal co-author of the book Guide to the Accounting Function for Voluntary Organisations in India published by the Centre for Advancement of Philanthropy (CAP) and is a regular contributor to CAP’s popular newsletter Philanthropy,” writes its editor Noshir Dadrawala.

Mistry: meritorious
At the Bachelor of Commerce examination held by the University of Mumbai in March 2004, Natasha Farokh Mistry of R. A. Podar College of Commerce and Economics, scoring 85.43 percent stood ninth in the order of merit. She obtained a total of 598 out of 700 marks for which she earned a special felicitation from the vice chancellor of the University on June 15. Two of her co-students from Podar College who secured the seventh and 10th grade in this examination were also felicitated on the occasion.
In the subject of financial accounting and auditing in which she obtained 95 percent (285/300) she earned the second rank in the University, according to a press communique. A consistently good academic performer Mistry plans to pursue her postgraduation studies in computer applications.
