Celebrations in Mahuva

At the celebrations of the salgirah of the Mahuva Parsi Anjuman’s agiary on October 3, 2014, Dr Hosang Mogul, trustee of that Anjuman, suggested that chief guest Sam Chothia, managing trustee of the Valsad Parsi Anjuman and vice president Zone B of the Federation of the Parsi Zoroastrian Anjumans of India (FPZAI), should, under the aegis of the FPZAI, make a representation to the government of India to award the Bharat Ratna posthumously to the late Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. A postcard campaign should be initiated, writing to the Prime Minister urging him to take action in the matter, Mogul stated.
About 100 to 120 Parsis, young and old, were present for the occasion, having come from nearby villages as well as from Navsari and Surat. Two priests from the agiary managed by the Malesar Behdin Anjuman in Navsari performed the morning’s jashan in the agiary hall after which the venue shifted to the newly renovated Manekwadi Hall, mentions a write-up received from Mogal.

After a humbandagi, the Anjuman’s president Hosi Bajina welcomed Chothia, along with special invitee Marazban Baria, managing trustee of the Bilimora Parsi Anjuman, while Mogal introduced them to the gathering. Chothia unveiled a photograph of the late Arnavaz Patel (Andheriwala) and a plaque regarding the donation of five lakh rupees by her husband Ardeshir in her memory.
Brothers Farzan and Zarksis Besania, who completed their MBA with flying colors, were felicitated. They are the sons of Dhan and Sapal of Mahuva. Firdaush and Khodabux Bacha were honored for their non academic achievements. The former had covered 5,231 km from Mahuva to Leh in Ladakh within 16 days on his motorbike, traveling via Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Chothia presented him with a silver medal on behalf of the Anjuman. Khodabux, a BCom student, has won many awards and prizes in school and from the Games Federation of India as well as the Khel Mahakumbh organized by the government of Gujarat for his prowess in wrestling and judo. He too received a silver medal at Chothia’s hands, the write-up mentions. Two couples from Mahuva who have completed 50 years of married life — Gool and Eruch Bhoja and Nargish and Eruch Mistry — were felicitated with shawls and gifts by the chief guest.
Chothia was appreciative of the activities of the Mahuva Anjuman and explained to those present the problems of small and defunct anjumans, promising to do whatever he could to ensure their safety. Baria spoke about the social responsibilities of the Bilimora Anjuman and the manner in which it helps the weaker sections of society. The function culminated with a lunch served by Soonu Kasad of Avan Baug, Navsari.
