Mahuva Agiary’s salgireh
The salgireh of the 102-year-old Ardesher B. Patel (Andheri, Bombay) Agiary located in the Mahuva District of Surat commenced with a jashan on October 3, 2013 in the Agiary’s hall. The ceremony was performed by four priests from the Malesar (Navsari) Anjuman’s Agiary on mah Ardibehest, roz Srosh. After the jashan the gathering moved to the community hall at Manekwadi, where the Shree Mahuva Parsi Anjuman’s president Hosi Bajina welcomed members and invitees, mentions a write-up sent to Parsiana by Anjuman trustee Dr Hosang F. Mogal.
Chief guest Marezban N. Baria, president of the Bilimora Parsi Anjuman, praised the generosity of another guest, Homi Mistry, trustee of the J. J. Mistry Surat Adarian Trust who was present with his wife, and Adar Bhoja of Dahanu Road. Baria spoke about the working of his Anjuman and lauded Bajina for his zeal and efforts in making the Mahuva Anjuman self-sufficient, the write-up mentions. Mogal explained the importance of the Manekwadi Renovation Project and appealed to humdins to contribute toward it. The work is in progress and is expected to be completed by December this year.
Before 1910 the Parsis of Mahuva worshipped at a fire temple housed in an old building that had been established in 1859 AD. A new Agiary building was constructed in 1910 using funds donated by Ardesher Patel. In the same year the residents of Mahuva got a community hall at Manekwadi, also endowed by Patel, the write-up notes.
After the meeting, about 100 humdins sat down to a lunch catered by Sunnu Kasad of Avan Baug, Navsari, the write-up concludes.
