Mahuva’s maavaa
In the first program of its kind the Shree Mahuva Parsi Anjuman felicitated couples who had completed 50 years of married life as well as youngsters who had received academic accolades. Chief guest at the program, held at the Manek Wadi community hall on October 23, 2011, was leading dramatist and trustee of the Surat Parsi Panchayat Yazdi Karanjia while religious scholar Rusi Besania, originally from Mahuva near Surat was the guest of honor, notes a write-up received by Parsiana from the Anjuman.
Over 170 Zoroastrians came from Navsari, Surat, Bombay and Dahanu to attend the function. It commenced with a jashan performed by two priests from Navsari. Anjuman president Hosi Bajina then provided details of the Manek Wadi renovation work and appealed for donations to complete the project.

On the occasion seven senior couples were felicitated, with the husband receiving a shawl and bouquet, the wife a useful gift. The seniormost pair, Mani and Noshir Bacha have been married for nearly 59 years. The others who have crossed the golden jubilee milestone are Ratamai and Mancher A. Mogal, Dolat and Minu B. Kodia, Aloo and Firoze N. Tampal, Kashmira and Firoze J. Kodia, Siloo and Dara Makati and Jaloo and Pesi J. Kodia. Bajina announced that this practice will be continued in the future while Aban H. Mogal suggested that couples who have completed 40 years of conjugal bliss should be similarly honored, the write-up mentions.
It was then the turn of youngsters who had scored well in higher education to be felicitated. Among their number were Dr Simin Hosang Mogal, a PhD in microbiology from Surat’s South Gujarat University, Malcolm Mogal, a chartered accountant, Rukhshad H. Mogal who obtained a first class in both MA (English) and BEd, Meherangiz J. Mogal who secured first class in MHRD, the postgraduate degree in human resource, Yazad Mogal who got a first class in MBE, a postgraduate degree in business economics. Three young lads from Mahuva have become MBAs — Hormaz S. Mogal and two brothers, Firdos and Eric P. Bacha.
Karanjia was appreciative of these achievements and lauded the trustees of the Anjuman for encouraging constructive activities. Besania recalled past trustees and spoke of their zeal and love for members of their small Anjuman. The contents of the scroll of honor were read out by Aban H. Mogal, while senior trustee Dr Hosang Mogal advised parents to encourage their children to opt for further studies before proposing a vote of thanks. Freni and Nozer Daruwala of Surat catered the lunch which was savored by all, the write-up concludes.
