Milestones
An alarming divide was noticeable in the birth (four) and death (30) figures for April 1-15, 2014. Five out of the seven who perished due to heart disease were in their ’80s and ’90s. Septicemia took the lives of four patients, while three succumbed to cancer. Two Zoroastrians each fell prey to hypothyroidism, lung disease/pneumonia, hernia and kidney failure. There were eight isolated cases registered: anaphylatic shock (a hypersensitive state of the body to a foreign protein), hemiplegia (paralysis of one side of the body), brain disease, gastro-intestinal haemorrhage, pancreatitis, diabetes, urinary tract infection and anemia. A 36-year-old male was the youngest to perish, the eldest, a 97-year-old female. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for the first 15 days of April in Bombay, was 82 years.
The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anjumans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anjumans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by two hospitals — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. The names of the deceased are supplied by the Bombay Parsi Punchayet. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.

4th April 2014 saw a brilliant dawn Mah.Ava, Roj Behram for the sole Parsi family residing at Kota city in Rajasthan. The Anklesaria's who have stuck to place for more than 7 decades now as a navjote ritual was undertaken here after a mighty gap of 60 years.On 4th April a inter-faith ceremony of Miss Evana D/O Kurush & Arti Anklesaria & Miss Zerlina D/O of Kaizad & Swati Anklesaria was carried out by Earvads Marzban Parvi & Aspi Antia Sahebs who gave there kind concern to undertake the procedure, were kind enough to come down from Mumbai to Kota. Roughly around 30 Parsi's solemnly witnessed the occasion a number unheard off for this upcountry place.The navjote ceremony was preceded by Jasan ceremony a day before at Dr. Cawas Anklesaria's place the younger brother of Mr Adi Anklesaria.Even the jasan was done for the very first time at both the Anklesaria's residence.It was very delightful event full of serenity & our parsipanu.
