Milestones

Births, marriages and deaths taken place primarily in the latter half of April 2014 are carried in this issue.
Due to the courts being closed for the summer holidays, Parsiana could not access the names of the couples who tied the knot in April. The same will be published in a forthcoming issue.
Data on only four births in Bombay (given from one south Bombay hospital) for the 15 day period was received by Parsiana while 26 deaths were reported from Doongerwadi (information supplied by the Bombay Parsi Punchayet). Diseases of the heart was the major killer taking the lives of six Zoroastrians (of whom three were over 80 years). Four patients perished due to cancer and three each died due to lung disease/pneumonia, brain disease and old age/general debility. Isolated lives were lost due to hypoxia (diminished amount of oxygen in the tissues), sepsis, septicemia, malnutrition, hypoproteinmia (deficient protein in the blood plazma), diabetes and liver disease. A youth, aged 28, was the youngest loss to the community. The eldest, was one year less than his centenary. Both were males. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for April 16-30 in Bom­bay, was 80 years.
The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anju­mans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anju­mans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by two hospitals — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. The names of the deceased are supplied by the Bom­bay Parsi Pun­chayet. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
