Babies born, marriages solemnized and deaths that occurred between August 1-15, 2011 have been mentioned herew.

Thirty-six community members chose to be consigned to the Towers of Silence in Bombay. There were six little additions to the community in the first 15 days of August. Heart disease was the major killer to whom 11 Zoroastrians succu­mbed. Of them seven were octogenarians and nonagenarians. Diabetes, brain disease, cancer and lung disease/pneumonia claimed the lives of three patients each. Two victims of road accidents suffered multiple injuries whereas urosepsis felled another two. There were nine isolated causes of death. They were: intestinal obstruction, gangrene of the foot, cellulitis (an inflammation of connective tissues), hemiparesis (a slight paralysis or weakness of one half of the face or body), general debility/old age, hypertension, subdural haematoma (a swelling in the brain filled with blood), multi organ failure and gastritis (inflammation of the stomach). The youngest to breathe her last was a 49-year-old female, the eldest, a 96-year-old male. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for the first fortnight of August, in Bom­bay, was 78 years.

The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anju­mans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anju­mans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by two hospitals — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. The names of the deceased are supplied by the Bom­bay Parsi Pun­chayet. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
