Milestones

Births, marriages and deaths taken place primarily in the former half of April 2011 are carried in this issue.

Due to the courts being closed for the summer holidays, Parsiana could not access the names of the couples who tied the knot in April. The same will be published in a forthcoming issue.

Four versus 23 were the birth and death figures for the first 15 days of April 2011. The major killer this time was pneumonia/lung disease (eight). Six victims fell prey to cancer and two each to old age/general debility, Parkinson’s disease and heart disease. Septicemia, liver disease, kidney failure, brain disease and fever claimed isolated lives. A female centenarian breathed her last at 102 years (the hightest age at death)! A 45-year-old female was the youngest loss to the community. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for the first fortnight of April, in Bom­bay, was 80 years.

The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anju­mans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anju­mans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by two hospitals — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. The names of the deceased are supplied by the Bom­bay Parsi Pun­chayet. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
