Milestones data, primarily for the former half of February 2011 is published here.

The age of Zoroastrian brides (as listed in this issue) ranged between 25 and 36 years, the arithmetic mean — the total number of individual ages divided by the total number of brides — being 29 years. The corresponding figures for the grooms were 26 and 39 years, averaging at 30 years.

The two hospitals in south Bombay registered only three births between February 1-15. The death figures totalled 37. Heart disease claimed 13 Zoroastrians of whom nine were in the 80 and above category. Five victims each fell prey to old age/general debility and pneumonia/lung disease. Septicemia and cancer took the lives of three persons and hypertension, two. Leukemia (a blood disease in which the white cells are abnormal in type or number), gastro-intestinal bleed, peritoneal perforation (a hole in the delicate serous membrane which lines the abdominal and pelvic cavities and also covers the organs contained in them), kidney failure, asphyxia (suffocation), multi organ failure and dementia (deterioration of mental facilities) were the isolated cases registered. The youngest to die was the 26-year-old youth who perished in the Bombay House fire. Ninety-eight was the highest age at death. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for the first 15 days of February, in Bom­bay, was 75 years.

The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anju­mans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anju­mans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by two hospitals — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. The names of the deceased are supplied by the Bom­bay Parsi Pun­chayet. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
