“FOZAWAC felicitates”

In "FOZAWAC felicitates” (Events and Personalities, Parsiana, September 7, 2006) there is a factual error. It is mentioned that "at the Std X school leaving level SSC examination, the highest scorer was Nazneen K. Irani of Secunderabad (91.83 percent), followed by Shaeroy A. Chinoy of Baroda (91.5 percent).”
My son Shaeroy A. Chinoy, having scored 92.7 percent, would be the highest scorer. I only request that the efforts put in by my son to score 92.7 percent should be recognized to keep up his morale and competitive spirit.
Lt Col ADI M. CHINOY (Retd)
Baroda

Rusi Bhumgara, general secretary of FOZAWAC replies
At the outset we are sorry for the confusion created by Col Chinoy.
To clarify the matter, please be informed that Gujarat is the only board which offers ‘Sangeet’ as one of the subjects, in which even those who fail in SSC score over 90 percent marks. The Federation of Zoroastrian Associations for Welfare and Culture (FOZAWAC) has been clarifying in their function every year that upcountry applications are considered. However to give justice to Bombay and Poona board students, we do not count the marks obtained in Sangeet and then we work out the percentage of remaining subjects which, in case of Shaeroy Chinoy is 91.5 percent whereas Nazneen Irani of Secunderabad had 91.83 percent with all accepted subjects. Shaeroy can certainly be considered first amongst Gujarat Parsis, but certainly not on all India basis.
