Mehta's eye-opener

At the recently concluded International Ophthalmic Conference held at the Fedorov Eye Institute in Moscow under the aegis of the Russian Ophthalmological Society and the International Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Dr Keiki Mehta was among the six foremost surgeons from around the world to be invited to demonstrate their latest surgical technique. This event was witnessed by 1,000 ophthalmologists and was simultaneously telecast live by satellite to 36 leading cities in Europe, notes a press release. Mehta demonstrated his pioneering surgical technique of doing cataract using MicroPhaco, both for regular as well as hard cataracts.

The ophthalmic surgeon also enjoys the reputation of being the only Indian to have been invited to operate live at Video Cataracta in Milan, Italy, reportedly the most prestigious of all live surgical teaching programs in the world.
Having developed the first soft intraocular implant lens in the world, Mehta’s efforts have won national and international awards, adds the release. He is also considered the pioneer in the use of intraocular implants and cataract surgery by phacoemulsification, being the first to introduce them in regular usage in India. The Mehta International Eye Institute at Colaba in Bombay is considered among Asia’s foremost comprehensive ophthalmic institutes patronized by Indian and overseas patients.
