Another award for Mehta

Bombay’s well known ophthalmic surgeon Dr Keiki Mehta was presented the Outstanding Research Presentation award by the American Intraocular Implant and Refractive Society for his pioneering work on Corneal Wavefront Controlled LASIK. Prof John Marshall from UK, reportedly the world’s best researcher in ophthalmology, did the honors. Mehta’s was adjudged the best paper in Refractive Surgery at the American Intraocular Implant and Refractive Society’s recently concluded congress at San Diego, USA, noted a press release sent to Parsiana by The Mehta International Eye Institute, Bombay.
The renowned surgeon has demonstrated a radical new method for achieving superlative good vision for patients on whom LASIK is to be done for moderate or high myopia and those with astigmatism. It is especially beneficial when done to remove residual numbers following cataract or corneal graft surgery and for presbyopia (reading glasses) control.

Director and chief of The Mehta International Eye Institute at Colaba, Bombay, Mehta has extensive experience of operating on cataracts, being credited with doing over 1.65 lakh surgeries. He was the first to introduce intraocular implants for cataract surgery in India, the first in India to do LASIK and the first to introduce phacoemulsi­fication in regular practice in 1988 for which he is known as the "Father of Indian Phacoemulsification.” He has won 11 gold medals in India and various prestigious international awards for his outstanding work, revealed The Mehta Institute’s write-up.
