New name in Nagpur

By Sherene Vakil · November 21, 2015
The Shri Nagpur and Kamthi Parsi Zarthosti Anjuman has changed its name to Nagpur Parsi Punchayet (NPP), reveals Shiraz Gimi, president of the Nagpur Parsi Gymkhana in its newsletter, Bawabuzz.
He explains that the Punchayet is "the parent body looking after all the assets of the trust and properties like the agiary, dharamshala, Tata Baug and aramgah. It also looks after the welfare of its members… The Nagpur Parsi Gymkhana works in very close coordination with the NPP. So much so, that many members do not know the difference between the roles of the two… The Gymkhana is mainly the sports body that aims at bringing the community together by organizing celebratory dinners, sports events, and such social and cultural activities which unite the community in an informal way.”
In a small community, numbering barely 500, it is common for the same persons serving on the boards of both the Punchayet and the Gymkhana as the bodies complement each other, Gimi notes. He expressed the Gymkhana’s appreciation of the unstinted support and guidance received from the Punchayet’s president Aspi Bapuna and members of the managing committee.
