Parsis and surrogacy

As a concerned Zoroastrian and a former chief executive officer of the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) I condemn the ultraorthodox in the community debating if the scriptures allow for renting of a non-Parsi womb. Surrogacy was unknown to man until very recently. How can the scriptures (of any religion) refer to it? It is as illogical as trying to find a proscription against smoking in our scriptures. How can they, when smoking was not known to Asians, Europeans or even North Americans? It was only known to the indigenous peoples of South America.
It is such rabid elements who hold back the community and hamper its progress. When the BPP wanted to install solar concentrators at the dakhmas, they opposed the move. We had the courage to go ahead and install them. For want of anything better to do, they are a big spoke in the wheel and deserve to be rejected outright. B. T. DASTUR
