Babies born, marriages solemnized and deaths that occurred between the 1st-15th of September 2014 have been mentioned herewith.
Twenty Zoroastrians opted to be consigned to the Bombay Towers of Silence while only six births were reported.
In the age bracket of over 80 were two Zoroastrians of the six who fell prey to diseases of the heart. While pneumonia/lung disease and cancer felled four patients each, two succumbed to septecemia. Obesity, septic shock, brain disease, kidney failure, ulcer, old age/general debility and leukemia were isolated causes of deaths. A young 29-year-old male died due to a gunshot wound to his head. A 37-year-old youth was also lost to the community. A female, a year short of her centenary, was the eldest to pass away. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for the first fortnight of September in Bom­bay, was 77 years.
The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anju­mans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anju­mans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by two hospitals — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. The names of the deceased are supplied by the Bom­bay Parsi Pun­chayet. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
