“Nanpura needs funds”

In the appeal by the vice president of the Surat Nanpura Parsee Zarthosti Anjuman ("Nanpura needs funds,” Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, January 7, 2014) there is an error.
The letter refers to the building adjoining the Dharamshala, Baimai Building, as being a "widows’ chawl.” This is a residential building for poor Parsi families.
I have spent 20 precious years of my early life staying with my parents and sister in Baimai Building. There were many families like ours who lived there and some of them still reside there.
After I completed my Chartered Accountant’s course and started earning we voluntarily surrendered the tenancy to give another poor Parsi family a chance to reside there. MEHERNOSH BARIA

Parvez Variava, vice president of the Nanpura Anjuman responds:
According to a marble plaque, Baimai Building was built to provide residence to poor Parsi Zoroastrians.
