Nanpura needs funds

The Seth Kavasji Rustamji Tamna Ni Dharmashala in Nanpura, Surat
The Surat Nanpura Parsee Zarthosthi Anjuman was formed in 1960. A fund, named "Zarthoshti Religion Fund” was raised. The Seth Kavasji Rustamji Tamna Ni Dharmashala, which is part of the Nanpura Anjuman, was built by the late Palanji Kavasji Athugar and made available to all Parsi and Irani Zarthoshtis on July 26, 1819 in fond memory of Hakim Kavasji Rustamji Tamna. Functions like navjotes, weddings, cultural programs, get-togethers and religious ceremonies are performed here. There are also 12 rooms available for Zarthosthis at a very reasonable rate.
This structure is nearly 194 years old and in a poor condition. The building has survived natural calamities like floods, earthquakes, etc which occurred in Surat during recent years, but has suffered the effects thereof. The iron girders and supports used in the structure have corroded. Extensive repairs are required such as plastering, water proofing, pest control, flooring, painting and restoring of toilets and bathrooms. In order to preserve this community structure and maintain it in good condition we are in need of funds.
Adjoining the Dharamshala there is a widows’ chawl, Bai Mai Building, which is part of our Anjuman and is old. Its load-bearing structure is of wood which has now decayed. We need funds for repairs.
On the New Year and other special occasions we distribute foodgrains, essential commodities and money to needy members of the Anjuman. We hope to soon provide medical relief as well and increase the benefits to the community if we collect adequate funds for the purpose.
We request readers to donate generously for these requirements. Cheques, demand drafts or money orders in the name of "Surat Nanpura Parsee Zarthoshti Anjuman” may be sent to the Shree Surat Nanpura Parsi Zarthosti Anjuman at Seth Kavasji Tamana Ni Dharmanshala, Bejanji Kotwal Street, Nanpura, Surat 395001.
