Parsi day at the races

Parsi day at the races
The races at the Mahalaxmi Race Course on December 29, 2013, like the 10th World Zoroastrian Congress (10WZC), were all about Parsis.
A nine race card was sponsored solely by community members. The total stake money of over a crore of rupees and trophies were provided by Parsi families — the Poonawallas, the Dhunjibhoys, Shapurji Pallonji, the Darashaws, the Ardeshirs, the Talatis, the Panthakys, the Godrejs and some others.
Parsi race-goers were present in large numbers — the men in pugrees, phetas and daglis, the ladies in garas — who had a field day when Parsi trainers won five of the nine races. Pesi Shroff led in two winners, whilst Hormuzd Antia, Cooji Katrak and D. J. Surti led in one each.
The race day was a brilliant idea suited to the memorable 10WZC. We watched the races on the computer from Bangalore and it felt great to be Parsis.
