“A lost opportunity”
I was saddened to read in the Editorial Viewpoint "A lost opportunity” (Parsiana, October 7, 2013) that my friend and mentor Mobed Mehraban Firouzgary will not be attending the 10th World Zoroastrian Congress (10WZC) in Bombay.
Firouzgary has been of tremendous help with my third book, as has Zoroastrian scholar Shahin Bekhradnia. I have found him to be a storehouse of religious information. Not only is he a qualified glass engineer of repute who still works in Tehran, he mentors youngsters there in the science of our religion, besides performing various religious ceremonies. He is widely travelled and experienced and I am sure would enhance the 10WZC with the depth of his knowledge. In India our Zoroastrianism is sketchy, despite the great priesthood.
I learnt about my religion in greater dimension while writing my third book and it was under Firouzgary’s guidance that many facts were revealed. I was also guided by Ervad (Dr) Ramiyar Karanjia in this quest.
I hope better sense prevails with the seven akabars on D. N. Road and they are gracious enough to invite Firouzgary to attend, contribute, share and educate the audience here.

Mobed Mehraban Firouzgary subsequently sent an email to Parsiana on November 7, 2013 in which he noted: "I am pleased to advise that the Congress organizers have not only allotted outstanding slots to our MP for reading out our goodwill messages from Iranian authorities and his own message, but have programmed to engage him for his parti- cipation in a high profile panel discussion, on the first day of the Congress and have agreed, as well, to fit in an Iranian Farsi/English interpreter. On the second day a full one hour slot has been allotted to other Iranian speakers... Dinshaw Mehta has, very kindly, invited me to present myself at the inauguration ceremony of the exhibition at the National Gallery of Modern Art on December 26… I will come over from Poona to be present there and… stay the night in order to attend the Congress opening ceremony.”
