The Congress cauldron
The Organizing Committee (OC) of the 10th World Zoroastrian Congress (10WZC) has roped in social activist Homai Modi, a veteran of past Congresses to draw up the program for the speakers at the international meet to be held from December 27 to 30, 2013 in Bombay. According to reports matters were in total disarray with dates and time not allocated, letters unattended and speakers not informed of the change of venue. To date neither the list of speakers nor a detailed program has been announced.
Those invited to speak and who had booked hotels/accommodation in the vicinity of the earlier venue selected for the meet, the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) at Nariman Point are being advised to book hotels closer to the National Sports Club of India (NSCI) at Worli, about 10 to 12 km away. Bombay traffic being heavy, disorderly and unpredictable, commuting from the southern part of Bombay to the new venue could easily take up to an hour or more.
Modi had assisted the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) in hosting the 1985 and 1990 meets. The OC consists of the seven BPP trustees, publisher Maneck Davar and BPP chief executive officer Mehli Colah who at present is medically indisposed.
Delegates have still to be informed of the change of venue which has been advertised only in the Jam-e-Jamshed Weekly and The BPP Review, both largely Bombay based publications.
The President of India Pranab Mukherjee who is to inaugurate the global get-together has still to confirm at what time he will be present.
