Congress developments

By Sherene Vakil · November 21, 2013
A day prior to the start of the 10th World Zoroastrian Congress (10WZC) at Bombay’s National Sports Club of India (NSCI) a jashan is scheduled to be held at 10 a.m. on December 26, 2013 at the Banaji Atash Behram. The same evening the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) will inaugurate at 6 p.m. an exhibition "Across Oceans and Flowing Silks: from Canton to Bombay, 18th to 20th centuries” at the National Gallery of Modern Art (formerly the Sir Cowasjee Jehangir Hall). The exhibition will remain open to the public for a few weeks. Entry to the jashan and the exhibition inaugural is probably by invitation only.
The World Zarathushti Chamber of Commerce will be holding their annual general meeting and awards presentation on December 26, 2013 at the Taj Land’s End Hotel in Bandra.

The 10WZC program will begin at 10 a.m. on December 27, 2013, but the President of India Pranab Mukherjee will officially inaugurate the global meet at 5.30 p.m. that day.
There is some confusion regarding the program printed in The BPP Review of October 2013. The Congress session is scheduled till 4 p.m. on December 30, 2013, the delegates having free time from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. At 7 p.m. the handing over ceremony to WZC 2017 is to be performed followed by an "Unsung heroes awards, youth night and dinner.” But reader Kersee Kabraji sent an extract of a letter written by the Congress Organizing Committee stating that on December 30, 2013 "we have to hand over the NSCI stadium latest by 2 o’clock.”
The Iranian delegation that was upset at the stepmotherly treatment meted out to them earlier has been given a pride of place at the Congress (see "A lost opportunity,” Readers’ Forum, pg 6).
