The Zoroastrian ethic
The Zoroastrian ethic
While I did not (fortunately) attend the 10th World Zoroastrian Congress, the occasion has given rise to numerous articles, books and catalogs which have refreshed me at 77 into underscoring my belief — since my navjote — that to be a Parsi by accident of birth must be only the beginning of a journey to understand the Zoroastrian ethic, relative to the Hindu metaphysics. Both provide a galaxy of thought.
How irrelevant and far removed are the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) and other such bodies from the evolution of the Zarathushtrian ethic? Why? Do people not read the scholars? Or are we so blind and arrogant to believe that people on the BPP panel are wise regarding our affairs? Looking at the texts emerging from scholars makes me ashamed to ever have had confidence that the stewards of our Punchayet would be men/women of enlightened reason.
How wonderful if every citizen of India were to be Zoroastrian, in the ethical sense. What else matters in a country struggling to bring joy to millions who hope for a better future?
