Parsis in colonial Bombay
I am a final year PhD student focusing on the history of the Parsis in colonial Bombay. I was wondering if readers would have any information about Messrs Godrez Mehrban and Company, a firm of Persian merchants based in Bombay in the 1870s. Godrez Mehrban and his brother (I have not been able to locate his name) migrated to Bombay from Iran possibly in the 1860s, while another brother Rasheed remained in Yazd and was a prominent member of the Zoroastrian community. He was assassinated in 1874.
Messrs Godrez Mehrban and Company collected and dispatched donations from Parsis across the empire for the relief of their co-religionists in Persia afflicted by The Great Famine of 1871-72.
Any leads would be appreciated.
