Information sought
I write in the hope that your readers may be able to help me with research on my second great-grandfather, Thomas Lidbetter (TL).
Family history records that he "entered into partnership with a firm of Parsee (sic) merchants, Doshabhai Merwangee & Co., Bombay,” circa 1863. Apparently the firm "suffered ruin” at the time of the American Civil War following which TL established a business as an average adjuster. Off and on, TL spent a number of years in Bombay and was succeeded in business on his retirement by his son, Wilson Thompson Lidbetter.
Any further information anyone may be able to provide about my family members, their business activities and association with the Parsi community would be gratefully received. TOM MAGUIRE
