Babies born, marriages solemnized and deaths that occurred between July 15-31, 2012 have been mentioned herewith.

Data on only three births in Bombay for the 15-day period was received by Parsiana while 37 deaths were reported from Doongerwadi (information supplied by the Bombay Parsi Pun­chayet). Pneumonia/lung disease was this time’s biggest killer claiming 10 patients, followed by heart disease and cancer (four each). Septicemia, hypertension, blood disease and diabetes felled two Zoroastrians each. Single lives were lost due to ganglia (enlarged lymphatic gland), Alzheimer’s disease, kidney failure, asthma, hernia, hyponatremia (decreased sodium in the blood), liver disease, hydrocephalus (an excess of cerebrospinal fluid in the blood), old age/general disease, malaria and brain disease. Ninety-six and 51 were the eldest and youngest ages at death. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for the latter half of July in Bom­bay, was 80 years.

The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anju­mans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anju­mans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by two hospitals — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. The names of the deceased are supplied by the Bom­bay Parsi Pun­chayet. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
