Gahanbar in Thana

By Sherene Vakil · August 7, 2012

Zoroastrians living in Thana and nearby areas celebrated the Maediaram gahanbar on June 3, 2012, Bahram roz, Dae mah, at the Khan Bahadur Bapuji Cawasji Divecha Hall (Town Hall) in Thana. The gahanbar was organized by the Thana Parsi Zoroastrian Anjuman (TPZA) which boasts 589 (life plus annual) members whose social and religious needs are met by the Association, mentioned Zarsis Udhnawala, TPZA president in an e-mail sent to Parsiana.
Every year the TPZA celebrates the Maediaram gahanbar with a jashan at the Patell Agiary at Tembhi Naka, Thana, followed by a religious discourse. This year Ervad (Dr) Rooyintan Peer spoke on "Zoroastrianism — The Best Religion.” He later answered many practical questions from members of the audience.

The TPZA also holds an annual general body meeting followed by dinner. The Association provides financial help to needy Zoroastrians for educational, medical and family relief and welcomes donations from individuals and Zoroastrian trusts for the purpose. As the Zoroastrian population in the Ghatkopar-Kalyan region is increasing, TPZA hopes more people become members to strengthen the community and hold more lively annual celebrations, the write-up concludes.
