BASZA’s jashan

By Sherene Vakil · July 7, 2013
The Borivli and Suburban Zoroastrian Association (BASZA) held its Dae mah jashan on June 1, 2013 on the premises of the Ruttonjee School, which are graciously given to them free of cost for holding functions. As always, the jashan was followed by the annual general meeting of the Association, entertainment and dinner, Khurshed Pastakia, secretary of BASZA informed Parsiana via the email. Earlier, the BASZA Newsletter had mentioned in its invitation that the costs were "thirty rupees per head only,” which was made possible because Armaity Gandhi had sponsored the dinner expenses.
The jashan, which started on the dot at 4.45 p.m. had perhaps the largest attendance for such a ceremony in recent times in Borivli, notes the email. It was performed by BASZA committee member Ervad Minoo Kotwal, along with a priest from the Salsette Agiary. After the chasni was distributed, Minoo Khan, BASZA president invited new members to come forward and introduce themselves. Among the speakers was Tehmton Anklesaria, vice president (north zone) of the Federation of the Parsi Zoroastrian Anjumans of India who has been a member of BASZA for three years but had never attended a function earlier, the email mentions.
Marazban Mehta, the Association’s vice president and a popular professional entertainer regaled the audience with jokes and songs. After a game of housie, the 78-strong gathering savored a dinner of chicken kadhai with bread, rice and chicken xacuti, egg salad and caramel custard, the email concludes.
