Who was Nowroji?

The Jal Phiroj Clubwala Dar-e-Meher in Madras will be celebrating its centenary in July 2010. The Dar-e-Meher was designed and constructed by Hormusji Nowroji who was also the president of the Madras Parsi Anjuman for nearly 40 years.

There is also a Nowroji Road in Madras which could be connected to him. Yet, we have no details of his background and achievements. He was a civil engineer and his family could have come from the Malabar Coast. There may also be a connection with a Narielwala family.
