Milestones data, primarily for the latter half of March 2010, is published here.

From the two hospitals in south Bombay that give Parsiana the birth figures, data for only six births was received. At the Towers of Silence in Bombay bodies of 34 Zoroastrians were consigned. Twelve patients succumbed to the usual major killer — heart disease. Nine of these were 80 years and above. Hypertension felled six patients, whereas four persons were victims of diabetes. Kidney failure took the lives of three Zoroastrians and septicemia and brain disease, two each. The four isolated cases registered were lyphangitis (inflammation of a lymph vessel), lung disease/pneumonia, asphyxia (suffocation) and cancer. In the case of one death, the coroner’s report was still pending. The eldest and youngest to breathe their last were both females, at 99 and 54 years. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for the last 15 days of March 2010, in Bom­bay, was 82 years.

The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anju­mans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anju­mans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by two hospitals — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. The names of the deceased are supplied by the Bombay Parsi Pun­chayet. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
