“Friends, philosophers…”
I have read with interest Eruch Desai’s article ("Friends, philosophers and guides,” Parsiana, March 21, 2010).
Before I proceed, I wish to make it categorical that I was/am very happy that Neville and Nusli Wadia were rechristened (initiated into our faith).
Desai mentions that their re-conversion to our great, simple, scientific and noble faith was "as an exceptional case.” Why should it have been an exception? I feel that religious laws should be uniform and not sectorial to suit the rich and disfavor the poor. The last thing we should practice is rules and mandates of convenience.
Let me share my experiences as a former chief executive officer of the Bombay Parsi Punchayet where we used to have an annual religious colloquium when the high priests, within and without Bombay, used to participate. Nothing emerged out of such meetings which were later on disbanded.
