Babies born, marriages solemnized and deaths that occurred between 15th-31st of July 2007 have been mentioned herewith.

The Bombay Towers of Silence interred the bodies of 43 Zoroastrians for the 15 day period. There were only three babies born. The major killer ­— heart disease — took the lives of 11 patients. Eight of them were octogenarians and nonagenarians. Cancer claimed six Zoroastrians. Four victims each perished due to septicemia and brain disease, three to liver disease and two to general debility/old age. Peritonitis (inflammation of the delicate serous membrane which lines the abdominal and pelvic cavities), hemicolectomy (removal of approximately half of the colon), hemiplegia (paralysis of one side of the body), Parkinson’s disease, ulcerative colitis (inflammation of the colon accompanied by ulcerative lesions), ulcer, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, hypertension, pneumonia/lung disease, intestinal obstruction and kidney failure were the many isolated cases registered. Two centenarians, aged 100 and 101 respectively, were lost to the community. The youngest to breathe her last was a 50-year-old female. The Zoroastrian life expectancy at birth for the last fortnight of July, in Bombay, was 79 years.

The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anjumans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anjumans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by two hospitals — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
