“A coach and a...”
It was nice to read about the exploits of Keki Tarapore as a cricket coach for over 30 years written by your senior editor Hilla P. Guzder ("A coach and a gentleman,” Parsiana, September 2002).
Strangely, she makes no mention of the fact that K. K. Tarapore had also played for the Parsis in the Pentangulars in Bombay during the years 1940-1944. Tarapore was the stock left-arm spin bowler for the Parsis. He used to come on after the opening spell by Jehangir Khot and Rusi Mody.
The Parsis of the Pentangular years also had a good batting line-up consisting of Mody, Rusi Cooper, H. S. Colah and P. E. Palia of Hyderabad who was the captain.
K. R. Meherhomji had the reputation of hitting sixes, but when I had last seen him play at the Brabourne Stadium, as soon as he came to bat, Vijay Merchant, captain of the Hindus, moved all his fielders to the boundary, and Meherhomji in trying to live up to his reputation skied the sphere and was out caught first ball.

While Dr Sunavala mentions K. K. Tarapore, my article was on Keki Bezon Tarapore.
