Nagpur Cricketers

The history of Parsi cricket in Nagpur dates back to at least the mid ’40s of the last century, if not earlier. I had the good fortune to live in Nagpur from 1951-1956 and to play cricket for "The Parsis” during those years.

Nagpur Parsi cricket team of yore included Jiji Irani (center, standing tall), Jamshed (now Sir J. J.) Irani (seated center, with legs splayed), Jamsheed Kanga (top row, left) and Minocher (standing extreme right)

Jiji Irani, after whom is named the Jiji Irani Challenge Cup Pentangular Cricket Tournament, though senior in years then, was still a player of merit, not an arm-chair benefactor. He was captain, coach, benefactor and motivator for the team.
I have a vintage photograph of the Parsi team of yore (see pg 6). Readers interested in copies of the photograph or sharing those happy times are welcome to contact me on e-mail: rmminocher @hotmail.com '
