Milestones data, primarily for the former half of May 2015, is published here.
Based on the information from one south Bombay hospital and families who provide copies of birth certificates there were only three babies born — all girls! Deaths at Bombay’s Doonger­wadi numbered 28.
Due to the courts being closed for the summer holidays, Parsiana could not access the names of the couples who tied the knot during this period. The same will be published in a forthcoming issue.
This time the major killer was lung disease/pneumonia which took the lives of eight Zoroastrians. Heart disease was next claiming six lives (of whom three were in the 80 and above age group). Two victims each succumbed to multi organ failure, cancer and septicemia. Isolated causes of death were attributed to old age/general debility, kidney failure, hemiparesis (a slight paralysis or weakness of one half of face or body), asphyxia due to hanging, foot cellulitis (inflammation of connective tissue), epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and hypertension. The oldest to breathe her last was a 97-year-old; the youngest, a 51-year-old male. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for May 1-15 in Bom­bay, was 80 years.
The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anju­mans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anju­mans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by two hospitals — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. The names of the deceased are supplied by the Bom­bay Parsi Pun­chayet. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
If readers have any births/ marriages/deaths they would like pub­lished, some proof to ensure the veracity of the report would be required. We are sure our readers would appreciate this re­quire­ment and cooperate with us.
