All eyes on Malcolm Baug

By Sherene Vakil · April 21, 2015
The installation of 30 CCTV cameras in Jogeshwari’s Malcolm Baug to provide safety and security to the residents has made the colony the only Parsi baug in Bombay which is fully CCTV compliant, mentioned Bomi Bacha, president of the Malcolm Baug Zoroastrian Association (MBZA) at a function on March 21, 2015 to celebrate Jamshedi Navroz. Other improvements include a revamped water supply system with the use of submersible pumps and the installing of convex mirrors at strategic points to prevent accidents on account of increased vehicular traffic inside the colony’s premises. A write-up on the occasion was sent to Parsiana by Framroze Gotla, MBZA trustee.

Priests of the Motlibai Wadia Adaran inside Malcolm Baug performed a jashan in the morning. The guest of honor at the evening’s function was Ervad Khushroo Panthaki, trustee of the N. M. Wadia Charities who was accompanied by his wife Shenaz. MBZA trustee Nariman Kotval was awarded the first Malcolm Baug Ratna, a special award announced by Bacha, for rendering selfless service to the Association and Adaran as member, treasurer and trustee for nearly four decades. All the priests and other staff of the Adaran as also that of Malcolm Hall, including Class IV workers, were felicitated and given cash awards.
Naazneen Katrak, who won the Golden Maharashtra MSME Award 2015 for being the Woman Entrepreneur of the year (see "Recognition for Mustang,” Events and Personalities, Parsiana, March 21, 2015) was honored on the occasion as was Naasha Pithawala for being the fastest female skater in India, clocking 28.25 seconds in a 300 m race. Children from Malcolm Baug who had performed well in academics and sports received cash prizes, as did two youngsters who had fared well in their professional examinations, the write-up mentions.
The over 500 strong audience was appreciative of the music provided by the Udaan Group which comprises visually impaired, physically and mentally challenged musicians. Drinks were sponsored by Coover Contractor and the dinner subsidized by MBZA, notes the write-up.
