Data on only two births in Bombay (from one south Bombay hospital) for the 15 day period was received by Parsiana while 22 deaths were reported from Doongerwadi (information supplied by the Bombay Parsi Punchayet).
The age of Zoroastrian brides (as listed in this issue) ranged between 23 and 37 years, the arithmetic mean — the total number of individual ages divided by the total number of brides — being 28 years. The corresponding figures for the grooms were 26 and 40 years, averaging at 30 years.
All the eight victims of heart disease were octogenarians and nonagenarians — the major killer. Pneumonia/lung disease and cancer took three lives each, while two deaths were due to kidney failure. Isolated deaths were attributed to hypothyroidism, asthma, hypertension, old age/general debility, hernia and liver disease. The eldest and youngest to succumb to their illnesses were both male — at 94 and 64 years respectively. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for the last fortnight of January 2015 in Bombay, was 85 years. The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anjumans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anjumans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by two hospitals — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. The names of the deceased are supplied by the Bombay Parsi Punchayet. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.

CORRECTION
In the Milestones column published in the February 7, 2015 issue of Parsiana we had carried a death notice of Nargis Jal Tata who passed away in Pennsylvania, USA on October 5, 2014. The announcement stated the names of three children.
The deceased is the mother of Naozad and Huafrish Farokh Irani only. The third name was carried by mistake.
Parsiana regrets the error.
