Ripon Club election

At a poll to fill three vacancies on the board of trustees of the Ripon Club in Bombay, held on December 9, 2014, senior counsel Jimmy Pochkhanawalla, businessman Jehangir Chowna and chartered accountant Xerxes Dastur were elected from a slate of six candidates. It was also decided that hereafter lady members will be inducted as full members and then only be able to attend the annual general meeting (AGM). Prior to this, no lady member was entitled to attend the AGM.

The Ripon Club has incurred a deficit of Rs 2,21,777 as against a profit of Rs 75,393 in the preceding year, as per the 128th Annual Report and accounts for the year 2013-14. Its investments as on March 31, 2014 amounted to Rs 96,21,117 of which Rs 55,00,000 was in fixed deposits with the HDFC Bank and Rs 41,20,000 with the Zoroastrian Co-operative Bank Limited. The Club also holds shares in Zenith Steel Company worth Rs 1,117.
With the resignation of three members and enrolment of 10 new life members and three associate lady members, the total membership stood at 697 as on March 31, 2014. Of these 165 are life members, 412 resident members, 33 non-resident members, 75 associate lady members, 10 lady members and two associate members. No associate member, male or female, or any lady member is entitled to contest any office or to vote.
