Learn to be grateful

When will we learn to be grateful for what our forefathers have done for us? Today we live in the cleanest and best surroundings in Bombay. We have access to grants, scholarships and charitable organizations. And yet we crib! We act as though all this is our birthright. What is wrong with us?

The B. D. Petit Parsee General Hospital

There is an individual who is perfectly healthy but has no job and is on the streets. When asked who looks after him, the reply received was: "Oh no need to worry about him. There are so many Parsi charities he collects from that he can live quite comfortably.” I have known a Parsi boss interviewing a totally unqualified man. When the remuneration was mentioned, the horrified applicant said, "Mhara Sahib, Parsi thai né Parsi né aatlooj aapoch (Dear sir, being a Parsi is that all you can offer to a fellow Parsi)?”
Do we have any idea how lucky we are to have The B. D. Petit Parsee General Hospital? Where will one find a place like this where the richest to the poorest can be treated by doctors who spend precious time with patients for little or no remuneration? The place has such an ambience and a beautiful garden in the middle of this congested city. Yet all I hear is complaints: the food is not good, the staff is hopeless, they don’t know what they are doing, etc. Do they realize how much effort is required to keep the place going?
To all these people, I would like to say: "The doors are open. Please go elsewhere.” MEHROO S. KHAREGAT
