For the common good

At a function organized by the Bai Ratanbai J. Chenoy Parsi High School in Secunderabad on November 6, 2014, Khushroo Toorkey, chairman of The People’s Co-operative Credit Society Limited, Hyderabad, handed over a cheque for Rs 69,365 to the principal toward scholarship fees for seven deserving students of the School. He also handed over a cheque for Rs 5,000 towards the welfare of teachers, mentions a press note sent to Parsiana by Kerfegar B. Antia, managing director of the Society who was present along with manager K. B. Mehta. The function ended with a vote of thanks by the School’s administration co-ordinator Ketayoun H. Chenoy.

Established in 2001, The People’s Co-operative Credit Society Limited, Hyderabad, earmarks a percentage of its profits for a "common good fund” and during 2013-14 the Society disbursed Rs 2,04,365 as donations to various charitable organizations for education, treatment of leprosy and HIV patients, education of mentally challenged children, rehabilitation of street children and other good works.
A number of Zoroastrians from the twin cities of Secunderabad and Hyderabad have joined the Society which has 2,291 members, most of whom are senior citizens who depend to a large extent on the monthly interest received from the Society. Loans are also offered by the Society at concessional rates of interest to salaried employees and against pledging of gold, the press note reveals.
