“Painful prose”

Having read the book The Phoenix of Persia by Jhangir Kerawala, I was both shocked and dismayed to read Rohinton Mody’s harsh review of the novel ("Painful prose,” Books, Parsiana, April 7, 2014).
The Phoenix of Persia is a work of fiction set in a unique backdrop of the Arab invasion of Persia. The story is fast paced and captivating, the various twists and turns keeping the reader riveted throughout. It gives us a fair idea of what our ancestors must have gone through to preserve our religion. Actually I would advise every member of our community to read this novel which comes as a refreshing change. Hats off to Kerawala for the concept and story line. I sincerely hope that he brings out a second part soon and continues the narration of this epic saga.
As for Mody, was he sitting in a school master’s chair with a red pen to ‘review’ this book? SHERNAZ N. DAVER
