Milestones data, primarily for the latter half of March 2013, is published here.

The age of Zoroastrian brides (as listed in this issue) ranged between 24 and ­36 years, the arithmetic mean — the total number of individual ages divided by the total number of brides — being 29 years. The corresponding figures for the grooms were 27 and 38 years, averaging at 32 years.

According to the death list which is sent to Parsiana by the Bombay Parsi Punchayet every month, there were 30 deaths during March 16-31. Births numbered five.

All seven victims who fell prey to heart disease were octogenarians and nonagenarians.While brain disease and septicemia felled four respectively, old age/general debility took the lives of three patients each. Pneumonia/lung disease and gangrene were the causes of death for two Zoroastrians each. Anemia, peritonitis (inflammation of the delicate, serous membrane that lines the abdominal and pelvic cavities), liver disease, hyperkalemia (excessive potassium in the blood), cachexia (a state of constitutional disorder, malnutrition and general illhealth), hypoproteinemia (deficient protein in the blood plazma. from dietary deficiency or excessive excretion) and cancer took one life each. In the case of one death due to a head injury, the coroner’s report was kept pending. The eldest and youngest to breathe their last were both females — at 97 and 49 years. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for the second fortnight of March in Bom­bay, was 82 years.

The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anju­mans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anju­mans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by two hospitals — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. The names of the deceased are supplied by the Bom­bay Parsi Pun­chayet. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
