Commendable care

With the inauguration of "Operation Aarogya” (a health mission by the Bombay Police) on January 7, 2010 at the hands of Maharashtra’s home minister R. R. Patil in the presence of chief commissioner of police D. Sivanandan, the police force of 45,000 and their families in Bombay will have improved access to the newly upgraded Police Hospital at Nagpada. In addition to its services in ophthalmology under the charge of Padma Shri Dr Keiki R. Mehta, police personnel will also receive medical attention in cardiology, dentistry and stress related problems, as per a press release received from the Mehta International Eye Hospital.
All services at the new eye OPD (outpatients department) inaugurated on the same day are given free of charge, said Mehta, who works at the Hospital in an honorary capacity. The noted medico informed the home minister that the Hospital now has the most up-to-date diagnostic equipment to effectively handle cataract, glaucoma, squint as well as retinal changes. He also mentioned that at an eye camp on April 18, 2009 at the Hospital over 30 police personnel were operated successfully for cataract and other eye problems (see "So others can see,” Events and Personalities, Parsiana, June 7, 2009). For his services to the police, Mehta was commended by the dignitaries present at the inauguration, the press release notes.
