So others can see

"I could not see anything before, but now I can see everything,” exclaimed Venkatesh Kadam, a police commando who had sustained severe injury to his right eye resulting in loss of vision. He had just been successfully operated on by Prof Dr Keiki R. Mehta, chief ophthalmic surgeon of the Nagpada Police Hospital, at an eye camp conducted there on April 18, 2009. This advanced cataract eye camp, inaugurated by joint commissioner of police B. D. More, saw 17 other patients with complicated cataracts being successfully operated on by Mehta in the recently inaugurated new theater complex of the Hospital, as per a write-up received from the Mehta International Eye Institute.

Dr Keiki Mehta: surgical skills

The Nagpada Hospital, one of the oldest police hospitals in the state, looks after the medical needs of 45,000 police personnel. Under the care of police surgeon Dr Patil, the Hospital has improved its services tremendously, the write-up reveals. The surgical chief and medical director of the Mehta International Eye Institute has successfully operated on the most difficult and complicated ophthalmologic cases using the latest state-of-the-art laser technology for the treatment of cataract, phaco, lasik, glaucoma, retina, cornea and squints. For his surgical skills and outstanding contribution to ophthalmology, Mehta was awarded the Padma Shri in 2008 by the President of India, Pratibha Patil.
