Surgical social service

The third community advanced eye camp this year by Dr Keiki R. Mehta, surgical director and chief of the Mehta International Eye Institute, Colaba was conducted on May 17, 2011 for participants of the 10th Residential Refresher Program for Ostas and Ervads and 3rd Residential Workshop for Behdin Pasbaans. Organized by The M. F. Cama Athornan Institute Ex-students’ Association in Andheri, the free of cost camp was followed by an outing to the beautiful green Bombay Port Trust gardens, as per an e-mail received from Luciano Gomes of the Mehta International Eye Institute. Interacting freely with participants, Mehta advised early operation for emergent cases and successfully performed surgery on some difficult advanced cases, notes the e-mail.
A few days later, on May 21, Mehta performed 25 surgeries on members of Bombay’s police force at the Police Hospital at Nagpada. This surgical eye camp was inaugurated by Deputy Inspector General of Police Rashmi Shukla along with Dr S. M. Patil, police surgeon, according to the e-mail.
