Human rights champion
For her meritorious services, outstanding performance and remarkable role in the legal field and for championing the cause of human rights, Dr Thrity D. Patel, emeritus professor and former head, department of law and former dean, faculty of law, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, was conferred the Rashtriya Gaurav Award and Glory of India Gold Medal on July 10, 2009. The awards were presented during the international conference on Economic Growth and National Integration organized by India International Friendship Society and the International Institute of Success Awareness in New Delhi, as per information made available to Parsiana in a write up sent by Rusi H. Godha, assistant honorary secretary, Nagpur Parsi Anjuman.

Only recently the University Grants Commission had conferred on Patel an Emeritus Fellowship in the subject of law (see "A merited fellowship,” Events and Personalities, Parsiana, August 21, 2009). Patel is also involved in community activities, writes Godha, being executive member of the Shree Nagpur and Kamthi Parsi Zarthosti Anjuman, vice president of the Nagpur Parsi Gym-khana and a trustee of the J. N. Tata Parsi Girls’ High School there.
