“‘Us’ and ‘them’”
In his article "‘Us’ and ‘them’” (Parsiana, December 21, 2008) leading solicitor Berjis Desai is once again at his machiavellian best trying to propagate a theory of class divide where none exists. Having been trounced at the hustings, he has now, with his new divisive rhetoric, chosen to drive a wedge into the community with his perceived classes of Dhansak Parsis (DP) and NCPA (National Centre for the Performing Arts) Parsis (NP). He has then based his entire argument on his own ill-conceived answer of an "emphatic yes.”
Is it not possible that dhansak lovers could be as fond of witnessing a western musical concert at the Jamshed Bhabha theater as the NCPA patrons could be of dhansak?
Desai’s contention that the DPs believe that the NPs "are not fit to lead them” is entirely misplaced. I am confident that had these corporate honchos and leading professionals stood for the elections as independents most of them would have fared better. Their fatal error of judgment was in jumping on to the Adult Franchise for Progress bandwagon.
I think the author should now take a break, at least for the next seven years, and stick to his profession in which he is purported to be a leader. And good luck to Bombay Samachar.
